The Air Jordan XVI is designed by Nike Footwear Senior Designer Wilson Smith who replaced Tinker Hatfield. Tasked with coming up with the new line, Smith incorporated some of the features from previous Air Jordan shoes. It includes the patent leather from Air Jordan XI, the mesh uppers form AJ V, ribbed leather gaiter from AJ 14 and the ¾ midcut from AJ III. What makes this new and exciting is the removable gaiter/shroud which gives you two looks for the price of one. The overall design of Air Jordan XVI is great and continues to give the functionality that is inherent in all AJ kicks. The removable gaiter/shroud provides thermal control. It also has the Zoom Air Unit in the forefoot for great cushioning and of course the breathable ballistic mesh upper that customers look for. Considering that this is Wilson Smith’s first endeavor for the Air Jordan series, he has done great in combining design and functionality. He has lived up to the expectations of Nike and Michael Jordan fans.
